PNP Chief: Duterte’s transfer of drug war leadership role to PDEA proof the President listens to the people

(Eagle News) — The fact that President Rodrigo Duterte transferred the reins of the conduct of the anti-illegal drugs war to another agency after his ratings slightly went down based on a recent Social Weather Stations survey only goes to show that he is “not a dictator,” and he listens to the people.

This is according to Philippine National Police Chief General Ronald dela Rosa, who spoke to CNN Philippines’ Pinky Webb on Friday.

“Frustrated si Presidente sa naging reaksyon ng taong bayan. Hindi siya diktador kasi nakikiramdam siguro na kung totoo ang sentimyento ng general public, yung lumabas sa survey. I’m working for the Filipino people.. Ano gusto ng taong bayan? Dissatisfied sila sa war on drugs? E di hinto na,” Dela Rosa said.

He said that while he was “nanghihinayang” that the PNP no longer had the lead role despite what he said was the fact that they were “winning the war,” he would do what the President told him to do.

In fact, he said it was the President himself who called him up and told him that the police would be “sub(bed),” just like in a basketball match, in the drug war.

But “if things get worse, pag di kakayanin, sabihin ko ’Sir pabalikin mo na kami. Kawawa naman mga pamilya natin,’” he said.
