(Eagle News) — These photos submitted by Surigao del Norte Eagle News Service correspondents Jabes Juanite, Seorge John Juanite and Carlo Quizon showed how the 5.9 magnitude quake that hit Surigao City on Sunday morning (March 5) further damaged structures in the city.

Sunday’s quake felt at intensity 6 in Surigao City was considered by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology  (PHIVOLCS) as the strongest aftershock yet of the 6.7 magnitude quake that hit Surigao del Norte on February 10, 2017.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr., told Eagle News Service that more aftershocks are expected in the area in the coming weeks.

At least 27 people were injured in this latest incident, while one died due to a heart attack during the quake.
