VP Robredo camp has pending motion, no payment yet for counter-protest to PET

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo said that they have no intent of ignoring the Presidential Electoral Tribunal’s order for them to pay Php 15 million so her counter-protest could move forward.

Atty. Romulo Macalintal, Robredo’s lawyer, said that their camp filed a manifestation last April 12, asking the PET for clarification on its order to pay the first tranche.

“Should this motion be denied, protestee Robredo is willing to pay the cash deposit for her counter-protested clustered precincts,” Macalintal stressed.

He noted, however, that Robredo would want to pay the amount only after the completion of the recount.

“Thus, without preempting the Honorable Tribunal, protestee Robredo asks that the payment of her cash deposit be deferred until such time that that the recount and revision of all the 36,465 protested clustered precincts has terminated,” Macalintal said.

Unlike Robredo, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos  paid the partial payment of Php 36 million required by the PET for his electoral protest against the vice president to move forward.

The former senator filed the protest due to what he said were the anomalies, frauds and irregularities that marred the May 2016 polls when he ran against Robredo.
