Monreal: MIAA spent at least P15 million to extricate Xiamen plane from NAIA runway

(Eagle News)–The removal of the Xiamen plane that got stuck in a Ninoy Aquino International Airport runway last week cost the Manila International Airport Authority some P15 million.

In a television interview on Tuesday, Aug. 21, MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal said this was, however, only the initial cost that covered  the manpower and the rental for the equipment used to extricate Xiamen Air flight MF8667 from the 06/24 runway.

“I met with the Chairman of Xiamen Airways and they said that they will cooperate,” Monreal said.

Che Shanglun, airline chair, has apologized for the incident that prompted flight cancellations.

He also thanked the MIAA for its help in a statement issued days after the incident.

The 06/24 runway was reopened last Saturday, 36 hours after the plane made its hard landing.
