Magnitude 5.9 quake rattles Davao Oriental

(Eagle News) – A magnitude 5.9 quake shook Davao Oriental early Wednesday morning, January 16, according to the latest data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS)

The quake had a depth of 114 kilometers and was of tectonic origin. Its epicenter was located at 127 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental.

PHIVOLCS said it is expecting aftershocks.

It was reported at intensity 4 in Davao City and in San Josefa, Agusan Del Sur.

It was also felt at intensity 3 in Alabel Sarangani; and at intensity 2 in General Santos City, Kiamba in Sarangani, Kidapawan City, Gingoog City, and and Tupi, South Cotabato.

Phivolcs said that Wednesday’s quake was considered an aftershock of the 7.2 magnitude quake that rocked the same area last December 29.
