Latest trailer released for highly anticipated Avengers sequel

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” saw its third full trailer released online on Thursday (March 5) as anticipation over the second installment of the hugely popular and lucrative superhero series builds to a crescendo ahead of the film’s launch at the end of April.

In the trailer the villain of the movie, the artificial intelligence Ultron, is seen bringing his robot forces together to battle the team of Marvel’s biggest selling superheroes – themselves with their own franchises – including Iron Man, Captain America and Thor.

Directed by Joss Whedon, the previous “The Avengers,” made by Walt Disney Co’s Marvel Studios, became the third highest-grossing film of all time, with $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office.

Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man, has signed up for another movie in the Avengers franchise, it was announced by the studio last year.

Speculation has suggested other Marvel cinema hit Spider-Man could join the Avengers on screen – he teamed up with the characters in the original comic book storylines – after Sony Pictures and Marvel Studies reached a deal to partner on the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise last month.

“Avengers: Infinity War,” the third installment of the ensemble superhero franchise, will be split into two parts, with part one released in May 2018 and part two in May 2019.

Disney has had a succession of blockbuster hits from its recently acquired Marvel Studios, from Downey Jr’s “Iron Man,” Evans’ “Captain America” and Chris Hemsworth’s “Thor.”
