Former First Lady leaves Sandiganbayan; posts bail

(Eagle News) — Former First Lady Imelda Marcos left the Sandiganbayan on Friday, Nov. 16, after she posted a P150,000 bail.

This was after the fifth division allowed her to post the bail pending a resolution of her motion to avail of post-conviction remedies.

Earlier, Marcos was allowed to post the same, but the anti-graft court forfeited this following her absence during the case promulgation on Friday, Nov. 9.

Marcos, in a motion filed before the Sandiganbayan, said she had been advised by her doctor to avoid stressful conditions as she was suffering from illnesses, including hypertension and diabetes, to explain her absence, but in open court on Friday, Nov. 16,  she said she was not aware there  was a promulgation on that day in the first place.

She said the notice for the promulgation, after all, was received by her cook.

“If I knew about it, your honor, even if I was sick, I would have come here,” Marcos said.

Marcos was convicted of seven counts of graft for her creation of several organizations in Switzerland where she supposedly had financial interests when she was part of then-President Ferdinand Marcos’ government.
