(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Office of Civil Defense deputy administrator Nicanor Faeldon to replace Bureau of Corrections chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa after the latter filed his certificate of candidacy to run for a senate seat in the May 2019 elections.

This was according to the Department of Justice.

In a brief statement, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said that President Duterte has chosen Faeldon to head the BuCor and that the DOJ has not objected to this.

“The DOJ has interposed no objections to the proposed appointment of Mr. Faeldon, and is now seeking the favorable endorsement of the Civil Service Commission as part of the requirements under the Bureau of Corrections Act of 2013,” Guevarra said.

Dela Rosa filed on Friday morning his COC with the Commission on Elections as a senatorial bet for the May 2019 elections.

Faeldon was appointed early this year as OCD deputy administrator after his controversial stint as Customs commissioner.
