(Eagle News) – “This is an example of a peaceful and willing transfer of power in the Senate.”

With this statement, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III nominated Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III as the new Senate President on Monday, May 21, 2018, and formally stepped out of his post.

Pimentel said this has long been in the discussion table and that he is truly supportive of the new Senate President.

Majority of the Senate is also supportive of the change in leadership, he said, even as he dismissed insinuations that Malacanang had anything to do with senate change of leadership.

He said that he was confident that he was able to deliver several campaign promises of President Rodrigo Duterte, including the law on free tuition, free irrigation, and on increasing the base pay of soldiers and policemen.
