PARIS, France (Reuters) — Paris glistened in the heat as temperatures reached 35 degrees Celsius on Tuesday (June 20), but the peak in weather did not stop tourists from enjoying the city and visiting the Eiffel Tower under a roasting sun, albeit with a quick dip in the fountain at its feet.

The heat over the past month has beaten various records for this period of the year in France, according to French weather sites Meteo-France and La Chaine meteo.

Many tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower were tempted by the fountain and its large pool of water nearby for a quick dip or foot bathe.

People were seen swimming in the fountain, dipping their head under its streams of water, and children playing ball in the pool.

Various tourists told Reuters TV that they were determined to enjoy the city’s sights despite the roasting heat, and were taking necessary precautions such as stocking up on water and staying in the shade.

This week’s heatwave is meant to continue over the next few days, with temperatures set to reach 36 degrees tomorrow (June 21).
