House justice panel junks impeachment complaints vs De Castro, others

(Eagle News)–The House justice panel has junked the impeachment complaints filed against seven Supreme Court justices who voted for the ouster of then-Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

With a vote of 23-1, members of the panel declared as insufficient in substance the complaints against  now-Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Justices Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Andres Reyes Jr., Alexander Gesmundo, and Noel Tijam.

The panel had earlier found the complaints filed by several opposition lawmakers including Rep. Edcel Lagman as sufficient in form.

Lagman’s  group had said the seven justices commited culpable violation, among others, when they voted to oust Sereno in May.
