Good hygiene in kids prevents illnesses

SAN JOSE, Antique  (PIA) – – The Education department in the province makes sure that school children fully understand the importance good hygiene practices in order to protect them from illnesses.

DepEd Antique Senior Education Specialist Salve Calon said that in Antique around 480 schools have already established their hand washing facilities thereby addressing the well-being of the school children.

“With this washing facility, it ensures that health habits are taught among children, and integrated into their daily school routines,” Calon said in a PIA interview.

Calon said that water, sanitation, school based-feeding, among others, are essential components in addressing the rights of the child as a learner.

The DepEd is also concerned about the poor health of some children, and to address this situation the DepEd conducts school-based feeding program in 348 schools where some 12,861 severely wasted and wasted children have availed of the program.

Under this program the schools were also urged to establish and maintain the Gulayan sa Paaralan which will serve as a source of ingredients for the School-based feeding program to address malnutrition among school children.

Calon said that the DepEd makes sure that all schools are Child Friendly, whereby teachers are equipped with knowledge on child protection, and as an institution that recognizes and respects the rights of the children.

The Senior Education Specialist said that they are also guided by a DepEd order to protect children in school from abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse. (JCM/VWV/PIA Antique)
