Garin sues Ubial over Dengvaxia mess

(Eagle News) — Former Health Secretary Janette Garin has filed criminal charges against her successor, Paulyn Ubial, over the Dengvaxia mess.

In a complaint filed before the Department of Justice, Garin sued Ubial for  reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, apparently blaming her for the deaths allegedly associated with the controversial dengue vaccine.

Garin took note of Ubial’s move to expand the dengue immunization program  from a school-based program to a community-based project.

According to Garin, “deaths were reported soon after the implementation of Sec. Ubial’s community-based program started.”

Ubial was appointed Health secretary in 2016.

“It is unfortunate that several complaints were filed against me and other DOH officials when in truth only Sec. Ubial’s negligence contributed to the alleged reported deaths,” Garin said.
