Fire in Paris apartment block kills eight people

(Reuters) – A fire in an apartment building in central Paris killed eight people on Wednesday (September 2), among them two children according to official sources.

Four people were also injured in the fire whose cause remains unknown and which broke out at 0400 (0200GMT).

It started on the ground floor before spreading into the stairwell of the building.

A spokesman from the interior ministry said the firemen had been mobilized twice during the night and that the investigation would look into whether the fire had a criminal cause.
