(Eagle News) — Aspiring candidates of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will only have until 5 p.m. today to file their certificate of candidacies (COCs), as the filing period ends on Friday, April 20.
Commission on Elections (COMELEC) spokesperson James Jimenez, said they are expecting busy weeks ahead after the filing week, since the campaign period will be from May 4 to 12.
According to Jimenez, after the filing period, the COCs will be transferred to the COMELEC central office for evaluation.
“We need to finish it within two weeks because we have to come up with the list of official candidates,” Jimenez said.
There are 31,900 barangay chairmanships and 263,000 council positions available in the Barangay and SK elections on May 14.
Meanwhile, all candidates, including the non-winners, must file their statement of contribution and expenditures for election expenses with the Comelec not later than June 13, 2018.
