QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Another highlight of the opening ceremonies for the 30th ASEAN Summit is the singing of the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship theme song, the “ASEAN Spirit” written by Virgilio Almario, National Artist for Literature with music by Josefino Toledo.
This song reflects the core message of the Philippines for its ASEAN chairmanship that is that the Philippines champions the positive change in the community to produce a unified voice in the world.
Likewise, the song echoes the six thematic thrusts of the country:
1. A people oriented and a people-centered ASEAN.
2. Peace and stability in the region.
3. Maritime security and cooperation.
4. Inclusive innovation-led growth.
5. Resilient ASEAN; and
6. ASEAN, a model of regionalism, a global player.
This was followed by another song written by Nicanor Tiongson with music by Ryan Cayabyab. Tt speaks of the unity shared by ASEAN member states.
