(Eagle News) — Expect rains in parts of the country over the weekend, as Gorio continues to enhance the southwest monsoon and it moves toward northern Taiwan on Sunday.
Renato Paciente, assistant weather services chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said in the next 24 hours, strong rains are expected over the western part of Luzon, including Subic and Clark.
Paciente said this is because Gorio–which as of 10 a.m. was located 615 kilometers east of Tuguegarao—will continue to intensify the southwest monsoon, as it approaches Taiwan.
In the next 24 hours, he said rains are also expected over northern Luzon, Bicol and the Mindoro area.
In the next 48 hours, Paciente said rains are expected in almost the same areas.
“Sa Sunday, kita natin na umonti na pag-ulan pero meron pa ring pag-ulan sa kanlurang bahagi ng luzon pa rin,” he said.
He said by this time, Gorio was approaching Taiwan so its “pull over the southwest monsoon is weakened because it was far from land mass.”
He said flashfloods and landslides may occur in areas affected by the rain.
“Ang ibayong dagat sa Western Luzon magiging katamtaman hanggang maalon— 1.25 meters to 4 meters na taas ng alon. Ito ay delikado sa maliliit na sasakyang pandagat,” he said.
