(Eagle News) — Senator Leila de Lima was turned over to the police at the Senate basement past 8 a.m. today, Friday, where she was then brought inside a van for transporting to the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame Quezon City, where she underwent booking procedures.

Earlier, Senate sergeant-at-arms Jose Balajadia Jr., fetched the senator from her office at 8 a.m. in compliance with an earlier agreement with the arresting team from the PNP that the senator was to be arrested on Friday morning.

He then brought her to the Senate basement where she was turned over to the waiting arresting team from the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).    Her arrest stems from one of three drug cases filed by the Department of Justice against the lady senator in connection with her alleged involvement and protection of the illegal drug trade at the national penitentiary during her time as the justice secretary.

As she was being brought to the basement, De Lima made a few statements.

“Sasama po ako sa kanila voluntarily.  Sa bandang  huli, lalabas din ang katotohanan at makakamit ko ang hustisya,” she said.

De Lima vowed to continue to fight President Rodrigo Duterte, saying it was honor to do so.

She claimed her spirit would not be broken.
