CPP founder Sison says President Duterte’s accusations vs him “baseless”

“He has to look after his mental health and consult with a professional psychiatrist,” Sison says

(Eagle News) — The word war between President Rodrigo Duterte and his former professor,  Jose Maria Sison, continued to heat up, with the communist leader denying Duterte’s accusations and taking a swipe at the President’s mental health.

“I pity him and I am tempted just to let him go because what he says against me is patently baseless and comes obviously from a sick mind…At any rate, he has to look after his mental health and consult with a professional psychiatrist,” Sison said in a Facebook post.

His statement comes days after Duterte blasted him in public, following the ambush of a Presidential Security Group convoy by the New People’s Army in North Cotabato that left one dead and several others injured despite ongoing peace talks between the government and the communists.

Duterte said Sison had colon cancer and was abusing the charity of the Norwegian government that was paying his hospital bills.

He called off the ongoing peace talks as a result of the ambush.

In his post, Sison also questioned the decision to declare–and extend–martial law in Mindanao, hinting that Duterte was not the most trustworthy person.

“Is Duterte the kind of president and commander in chief the (government) can rely on for the factual basis of martial law, which puts at risk the liberties, lives and limbs of millions of people?” he asked.
