(Eagle News)– President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday reiterated that the coalition government demanded by communists was “not acceptable.”

Duterte made the comment as he hosted  a dinner for 187 former members of the New People’s Army in Malacañang, based on a news release issued on Wednesday.

According to the release, the President said that “in order to assume power, one must win the elections.”

“Speaking before the rebel returnees, Duterte said the rebel group [has] been fighting the government for the past 50 years and has brought nothing except misery to the lives of the people,” the release said.

The President also promised the rebel-returnees financial assistance, and promised to help them integrate into the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

He said the female rebel-returnees would be taken to  Hong Kong so they could see how capitalism has changed it.

The President called off peace talks with the communists last year, following what he said were their “despicable acts” that included the supposed killing of a baby.
