Duterte on critics’ claims he plans to stay in power: I am not the vainglorious type

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, June 25, reiterated he had no intention  of staying in power.

The President made the pronouncement amid his critics’ allegations he was planning to extend his term with his push for changes in the Constitution.

According to Duterte,  “wala akong hinihingi sa inyong additional power..”

Duterte said that in the first place, “I’ve lived with power all my life.”

He noted that he was mayor of Davao for 23 years.

Even when his father was governor of Davao, he said he never exploited any power.

“I’m not the vainglory type,” he said.

The President has said he was pushing for changes in the Charter that would allow for a federal type of government in the country.

He said this would address the problems besetting Mindanao.
