DOJ set to create team that will draft and file petition to declare CPP-NPA as terrorist group by court

MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Department of Justice (DOJ) said that it will create a team that will draft and file and a petition on the declaration of the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as a terrorist group.

“I will issue a DO (department order) directing Officer-in-charge Prosecutor General to form a team to draft and file a petition before the Regional Trial Court praying to grant the Petition to Declare CPP-NPA as terrorist organizations,” said Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.

He said that the team will be composed of fiscals from the National Prosecution Service who will file petitions before the appropriate regional trial courts, hopefully on or before December 11, 2017.

According to Aguirre the declaration of the CPP and NPA as terrorist groups is under the Human Security Act also known as the Republic Act No. 9372.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, December 5, through a signed proclamation read by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, formally declared the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as a terrorist group.
