DOJ asks Makati court to deny Trillanes’ plea to be allowed to travel abroad

(Eagle News) — The Department of Justice has asked a Makati court to dismiss Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s request to be allowed to travel abroad.

In seeking to junk the plea filed before the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150, noted that Trillanes was a “flight risk” who was facing several cases in courts.

They noted that Trillanes, a senator and a former military officer, had the means and resources to escape.

“From the tenor and import of the present motion, there is no urgent or compelling reason to justify its grant,” prosecutors said.

Trillanes is facing cases in connection with the Oakwood and Peninsula Manila sieges in 2003 and 2007, respectively, among others.

He had asked the court to allow him to travel to the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom from December 11, 2018 to January 12, 2019 and to the United States from January 27 to February 10, 2019.

For this, Trillanes, who is out on bail, cited the need to attend “various activities” in performance of his duties.
