Contractor rescued after dangling from Houston bridge

A contractor working for the Texas Department of Transportation helplessly dangles from Houston’s East Loop bridge before rescuers manage to pull him to safety.

It was a terrifying day at work for a Texas Department of Transportation contractor who reportedly slipped while doing preventative maintenance while walking along the catwalk below the East Loop bridge on Wednesday afternoon (October 7, 2015).

Aerial video showed the man strapped to his harness dangling hundreds of feet above the Houston Ship Channel while he waited for rescuers to pull him to safety.

Local news media reported that once rescuers arrived, they assembled type of tri-pod hoisting device and opened up a manhole to try and lift the worker to through the hole.

Eventually, the man was brought to safety and placed on to a stretcher on the bridge, where paramedics then transported him by ambulance to a local hospital.

His condition was not immediately known. (Reuters)
