COMELEC open on weekends until July 30

ILOILO CITY, July 13 (PIA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Iloilo City said their office will be open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays to accommodate voters who will register for the 2016 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

In a media interview, City Comelec assistant election officer Jonathan Sayno said that the voters’ registration is set from July 15, 2016 (Friday) to July 30, 2016 (Saturday).

He said applications for registration of voters must be personally filed during office hours, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

For the barangay elections, the applicants for registration should be: Filipino; at least 18 years old on or before election day; a resident of the Philippines for at least one year; a resident for at least 6 months of the barangay where he or she intends to vote.

For the SK polls, qualified registrants, under the SK Reform Act of 2015, are those aged 15 to 30.

The Comelec clarified, however, that only those who are 18-24 years old are allowed to run for SK elective posts.

SK registrants will form the Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) or youth federation.

According to Comelec, registered voters as of May 9, 2016 National and Local Elections and those who will register for the Barangay Election who are 18 but not more than 30 years old on or before October 31, 2016 shall be included in the list of voters for the Katipunan ng Kabataan.
