CA upholds order for actress Rosanna Roces to pay beauty firm P3.1 million

(Eagle News) — The Court of Appeals has affirmed its previous order for actress Rosanna Roces to pay P3.1 million to a beauty firm for breach of contract.

In denying Roces’ motion for reconsideration of the June 6 order, the Eleventh Division said there were “no new and substantial issues” raised in the MR “which have not been judiciously passed upon by this Court.”

The CA orders essentially affirmed the decision issued by a Quezon City court, which found Roces guilty of  making  “defamatory imputations with malicious intent” against Forever Flawless and Vicki Belo when she called the dermatologist a “mere aerobic instructor” on television, and said an “unsatisfactory liposuction” was done on her.

The courts said this was in violation of her agreement inked with the company when she decided to sell her shares in the same, and which Forever Flawless agreed to buy for P1.5 million, in 2003.

Part of the agreement was for Roces not to malign the company, its services, products and its stockholders and officers or she would be fined P1 million for each infraction.
