Boy dismissed from Ateneo Junior High School due to bullying claims self-defense

Boy’s mother also apologizes but asks for public’s understanding: “Bata ‘tong anak ko”

(Eagle News) — The boy who was dismissed from Ateneo Junior High School after he was seen physically assaulting a student in a viral video has apologized for his actions, but claimed merely acting in self-defense.

“Sabi niya gusto niya raw makipagsuntukan mamaya. Sabi ko sige, mamayang dismissal. So, nung dismissal nga ‘yon, pumunta kami sa CR tapos umihi siya tapos nagsasalita ako tapos yung nangyari sa video,” he  said in an interview with GMA.

In the video, the boy was seen asking another student to choose between “bugbog o dignidad.”

Hearing no response, the boy proceeded to physically assault the student, who did not fight back.

“I was just defending myself,” the boy claimed.

Asked about why he physically and emotionally assaulted three other boys as seen in other videos that have also gone viral, the boy said one of the boys was a friend he had an “issue” with.

He said they, however, are back to being friends again.

He said another video showed mere “katuwaan.”

In the interview, the boy’s mother also apologized for her son’s actions.

“Pero gusto ko ring hingin yung understanding ng tao na bata ‘tong anak ko eh,” she added.
