(Eagle News)–Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin on Monday, Oct. 14, urged Supreme Court personnel and officials to be “constant” in their loyalty to the judiciary.
Bersamin also urged them to be “steadfast in the fealty to the letter and spirit of the constitution and to the rule of law” as he led his last flag-raising ceremony as Chief Justice.
Bersamin is slated to retire on Oct. 17.
“All I ask as I exit from the judiciary is just as forthright as that nothing more. Continue doing your assigned task and work..,” he said.
According to Bersamin, retirement from the court, where he has been for over 10 years, brings him “mixed emotions.”
“Half of me is happy, the other half sad. Happy because finally go into retirement with the comforting thought that one younger magistrate shall continue the work I leave behind. Very sad because i am finally leaving this place and bidding farewell to this community. It is like leaving my home of over a decade,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by 13 of his fellow magistrates.
Padre Faura Street was closed to motorists for the duration of the ceremony. Moira Encina
