Amid looming mandatory retirement of Chief Justice De Castro, JBC says nominations for the post to start on Sept. 29

(Eagle News) — The Judicial and Bar Council will open the nomination for the post of Chief Justice on Sept. 29 with the looming mandatory retirement of Chief Justice Teresita de Castro.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, JBC ex-officio member, said the deadline for the submission of requirements is Oct. 15.

De Castro will reach the mandatory age of retirement of 70 on Oct. 8, 2018.

The five most senior Associate Justices of the Supreme Court —Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Mariano Del Castillo and Estela Perlas-Bernabe–are automatically nominated to the post but still need to submit a letter of acceptance, and their own requirements.
