Another inmate who died tests positive for COVID-19
(Eagle News)–The first COVID-19-positive case at the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong has passed away.
The Bureau of Corrections said based on a report it received, the 72-year-old woman passed away on Monday, April 27.
The patient was hospitalized on April 13 after exhibiting symptoms of pneumonia.
The BuCor has begun tracing and isolating inmates the patient had contact with.
Earlier, the BuCor said initially, 18 inmates and one jail worker tested positive as a result.
In a related development, the BuCor announced another inmate who died on April 21 was confirmed to be positive for the COVID-19 virus.
This was based on a report received by BuCor from the East Avenue Medical Center, which conducted a test on the patient on April 14.
BuCor said the woman had been in and out of the hospital since February due to kidney disease, systemic lupus and other illnesses.
All in all, the BuCor has confirmed 50 COVID-19 cases, of which three have died.
