Detained De Lima asks courts that she be granted furlough for son’s graduation

(Eagle News) — Detained Senator Leila de Lima has asked two branches of the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court that she be granted furlough so she can attend her son’s graduation rites.

De Lima, who is facing drug-related cases, filed the urgent motion before Branches 205 and 206.

In her motion, she said her son,  Vincent Joshua de Lima Bohol, was slated to graduate with a  law degree from San Beda College in Muntinlupa during ceremonies tentatively scheduled on June 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

She also asked that she be allowed to stay for two to three more hours after the rites so she and her family could celebrate.

“To be personally present in such a special occasion is more than a compelling duty on the part of the accused De Lima as a mother,” she said.

The cases of De Lima, who is detained in Camp Crame, stem from  her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trading in the New Bilibid Prison when she was justice secretary.
