The movie “Heneral Luna”  has been very trendy and popular lately, especially to the students, who can watch said indie film 50% off if they present their student ID when purchasing the ticket.

The movie tells about the mighty story of Heneral Antonio Luna, his struggles and bravery for the nation’s freedom against the American. Aside from the heroism and love for the country that this movie teaches us, it also became the eye opener to everyone that we Filipinos, especially the younger generation, lack certain knowledge when it comes to our very own heroes.

This issue emerges in social media after a netizen posted in her twitter account, “Friend: We watchd Heneral Luna last wikend. May mgjowa walking out of cinema b4 us. Sabi ng gf, bat daw nakaupo lng si Mabini sa buong movie.”The girl referred in the tweet was showered with negative comments by the denizens of the world wide web.

What is she doing during history subject in elementary years? Apolinario Mabini is the brain of Katipunan and known as the Sublime Paralytic who has polio prior to the revolution.

Epy Quizon who portrayed Apolinario Mabini in the movie, posted on his social media account to show his disappointment, as quoted “Ano kaya tinuturo sa  history classes ng mga bata ngayon? May lumapit nga sakin grupo ng college students asking bakit lagi ako nakaupo? Ang tanong ko lang… Hindi nyo kilala si Mabini?”

It seems that the problem is clear, that the Filipino youth’s ignorance towards our own history is very alarming, although we cannot say that it’s the government’s fault, still they should focus on aggressively teaching history to the future generation to avoid this kind of disgrace.
