Villar: No move to install me as leader of next Senate

(Eagle News)–There is no move to install Senator Cynthia Villar as the leader of the next Senate.

This is according to Villar herself, who appeared to have a lack of interest so far in pursuing the leadership post.

Villar topped the recently concluded Senate race, garnering over three million votes more than  her closest  rival, fellow reelectionist Grace Poe.

“Marami pa akong gagawin,..” Villar said, noting that some of her projects require her attention now that the campaign was over.

If she was called into a meeting though, Villar said “that’s the time I will think about it.”

“Everything you have to think about when it comes,” Villar said.

It was Senator-elect Imee Marcos who said in a television interview that there was  “some kind of move to push Sen. Cynthia” to the Senate presidency.

Talk of a possible change in leadership in the Senate came after Senate President Tito Sotto revealed there was a looming conflict between incoming  senators who are seeking the chairmanships already held by incumbent senators.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian downplayed the rumors, however,  saying in a television interview that many of the incumbent and incoming senators backed Sotto as the Senate president.

Gatchalian noted that under Sotto’s leadership, the Senate garnered the highest trust rating in its history based on a Pulse Asia survey.
