(Eagle News) — Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson resigned because she did “not wish to (be) such a burden” to the Presidential Communications Operations Office.
“..The recent events have put me in a position where I am being held responsible for Congress withholding the 2019 PCOO budget..,” she said in her resignation letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte, and copy furnished to Special Assistant to the President Bong Go.
Uson, whose resignation was effective Oct. 1, did not say what these “recent events” were, but only recently, she earned the ire of netizens after a video showing her friend, blogger Drew Olivar, making gestures and squeaking sounds was posted on her Facebook account.
The deaf community filed a complaint against Uson and Olivar over the incident.
Uson also drew flak for a recent video also uploaded on her social media account that showed Olivar making lewd gestures while making a play on the word “federalism” that critics said was offensive.
Uson defended the video, saying it was merely intended to raise awareness about the importance of federalism.
“It has been my honor to be of service to you as Assistant Secretary for Social Media at the (PCOO). In the past one year and four months, I believe I have remained true to my commitment in delivering the message of the Duterte administration to Filipinos across the globe via social media,” Uson said in her letter.
She also thanked Duterte for the “once in a lifetime opportunity to serve the Filipino people,” saying she would be “forever grateful” to him.
“Rest assured that your loyalty to my administration has not wavered,” she said.
