“Usman” moves closer to E. Visayas

(Eagle News)–“Usman”  has maintained its course and is moving closer to Eastern Visayas.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that as of 7 a.m., the center of “Usman” was located 250 kilometers east of Guiuan, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

“Usman” is moving west northwest at 10 kilometers per hour, and is expected to intensify into a tropical storm prior to its landfall over E. Samar on Friday night.

Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over northern Palawan including Calamian Group of Islands, Camarines Norte, southern Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias islands, southern Occidental Mindoro, southern Oriental Mindoro, and Cuyo Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, southern Leyte, northern Cebu including Camotes islands, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Antique, northern Negros Occidental and Dinagat Island.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Visayas, Bicol region, Mindoro province, Marinduque, Romblon and Quezon.

Fisherfolk and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under Signal No. 1, the seaboards of northern Luzon, eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Surigao due to the tropical depression and the surge of the northeast monsoon.

“Usman” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
