US to maintain strong ties with Philippines

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The strong relations between the Philippines and the United States of America will remain, according to State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner.

This was despite the statements made by President Rodrigo Duterte against the US after the country expressed its misgivings on the state of human rights in the Philippines in connection with government’s war on illegal drugs.

Toner also said that the US and the Philippines has good relations with each other and that President Duterte is known for his frank speech.

Furthermore, the US continues to coordinate with the Philippines regarding a wide scope of bilateral and regional issues.
