(Eagle News) – Typhoon Yutu, which was named “Rosita” when it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), is expected to dump moderate to heavy rains by Monday evening (Oct. 29), according to the country’s weather bureau, PAGASA.
The typhoon has maintained its strength, with maximum sustained winds of 200 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 245 kph which is comparable to that of typhoon Ompong which had battered the country last month.
It continues to move westward towards northern Luzon at 20 kph. As of 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, “the eye of Typhoon ‘Rosita’ (international name Yutu) was located based on all available data at 875 km East of Aparri, Cagayan (18.0 °N, 129.9 °E ).”
PAGASA said that there is “possible hoisting of “Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals over the Eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon tonight (28 Oct).”
But forecasters said that the typhoon which has wreaked havoc in the Northern Marianas Islands the other week would start to be felt Monday evening.
PAGASA said that there is “possible raising (of) TCWS (Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal) Number 1 over Metro Manila by tomorrow evening (29 Oct).”
“Moderate to heavy rains directly associated with the typhoon is expected over Northern and Central Luzon starting tomorrow evening (29 Oct). Flooding and landslides are possible. Travel by land and sea is risky,” it said in its latest update.
“Strong to very strong winds are expected to affect the Eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon starting Monday evening (29 Oct),” PAGASA said.
-Landfall by Tuesday morning, to exit PAR on Thursday, Nov. 1-
The typhoon is expected to make landfall over the Isabela-Cagayan area by Tuesday morning, Oct. 30.
A storm surge is possible over coastal areas of Isabela and Cagayan, and “everyone is advised to refrain from outdoor activities,” PAGASA’s update said.
Typhoon Yutu or Rosita is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibilty (PAR) by Thursday, Nov. 1.
