Typhoon Rosita (Yutu) makes landfall in Isabela; 10 provinces under signal no. 3

(Eagle News) — Typhoon Rosita (Yutu) has made landfall in Dinapigue, Isabela as of 5 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

Ten provinces in Luzon were placed under signal number 3. They are Isabela, Quirino, Northern Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province and Pangasinan.

Twelve more areas in Luzon were under signal number 2: Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Northern Quezon including Polillo Island, Southern Aurora, Zambales, Pampanga and Bulacan.

As of 4 a.m.today, the eye of Typhoon “ROSITA” was located based on Daet radar and other available data in the vicinity of Dinapigue, Isabela (16.7 °N, 122.5 °E ), according to the country’s weather bureau, PAGASA.

Typhoon Rosita is moving west at 20 kph. It is expected to traverse over Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet and La Union.

Stormy weather will be felt over the areas under signal number 3 and 2. Travel by land is risky over these areas, said PAGASA.

Moderate to heavy rains are forecast over Northern and Central Luzon.

“Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with the local disaster risk reduction and management offices,” PAGASA said in its update.

“Storm surge of up to 3 meters is possible over the coastal areas of Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan,” it said.

Signal number 1 is hoisted over Metro Manila, Batanes, Babuyan group of Islands, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, Bataan and Cavite
.
PAGASA has advised fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts not to venture out over the seaboards of areas with tropical cyclone warning signals and the eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon.

Typhoon Rosita is expected to exit landmass this afternoon. It will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow evening, Wednesday, Oct. 31.
