Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 hoisted over Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands
(Eagle News)–Typhoon “Onyok” has maintained its strength as it continuously moved in a northwest direction on Monday, Sept. 30.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan group of islands, with “Onyok” located 200 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
“Onyok” is moving at 20 kph and is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight.
PAGASA said today, the rainbands of “Onyok” will still bring occasional light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Batanes.
Scattered rainshowers during thunderstorms are also still possible over Ilocos Norte, Apayao and Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands).
The weather bureau said sea travel is risky, especially for small seacraft, over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, including the areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1, due to potentially rough sea conditions.
