WASHINGTON, United States (AFP) — President Donald Trump insisted Sunday he has no intention of sacking Robert Mueller, after his transition team claimed the special counsel unlawfully obtained tens of thousands of emails for his probe into Russian meddling in the US election.

When asked if he intended to fire Mueller, Trump told reporters: “No, I’m not.”

Republicans have cast doubt on the impartiality of Mueller and pressed for a new independent prosecutor to investigate anti-Trump bias, leading to speculation that the administration could be laying the groundwork for firing Mueller.
