Tropical Depression “Urduja” maintains its strength as it approaches Palawan

(Eagle News) — Tropical Depression “Urduja” maintained its strength as it approached Palawan on Sunday night.

In its 11 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the center of “Urduja” as of 10 p.m. was 50 kilometers northeast of Cuyo.

“Urduja” is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

It is forecast to move west southwest at 17 kilometers per hour, PAGASA said.

Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Palawan and Aklan, northern Antique.

PAGASA said scattered to at times widespread rains will continue over Mindoro provinces and northern Palawan including the Calamian Group of Islands.

“Residents of these areas must undertake appropriate measures against flooding and landslides and coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices,” PAGASA said, noting also that sea travel was not advised over the seaboards of the areas under a tropical cyclone warning signal.

PAGASA said as of 8 p.m. today, the other tropical depression monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility was seen 1,875 kilometers east of Mindanao, with maximum sustained winds of 40 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 50 kilometers per hour.
