(Eagle News) — Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is asking the court to allow him to travel to four countries in December and January.
In a motion, Trillanes, who is out on bail, asked Judge Elmo Alameda of Branch 150 of the Makati Regional Trial Court for approval to go to The Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom from December 11, 2018 to January 12, 2019 and to the United States from January 27 to February 10, 2019 so he could attend “various activities.”
Based on Trillanes’ motion, these “activities” include giving a lecture at the Universitet Van Amsterdam in the Netherlands on “Democracy and the Rule of Law in the Philippines” on December 13.
Alameda has ordered the issuance of a hold departure order against Trillanes, granting the motion of prosecutors who argued the senator still faces charges of rebellion filed before the court following President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 572 that declared the amnesty granted to the senator as void ab initio.
Charges of coup d’etat were also filed against Trillanes in another Makati court, Branch 148, which denied the issuance of a warrant of arrest against him but upheld the validity of Proclamation No. 572.
Prosecutors and Trillanes’ camp have filed respective motions for partial reconsideration of the court ruling.
