(Eagle News) — Trafficking charges and charges for alleged violation of a law protecting children against abuse were filed on Thursday, Nov. 29, against former Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Satur Ocampo, ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro and 17 others.

Information from the group of Ocampo said they were assisting lumads  who were affected by the supposed forced padlocking of a community center in Talaingod, Davao del Norte by a paramilitary group when they were blocked by the military, who accused them of holding minors.

Ocampo’s group was allegedly set to undergo inquest proceedings as of this afternoon.

Gabriela Reps. Arlene Brosas and Emmi De Jesus condemned the arrest, urging Speaker Gloria Arroyo to “stand by the rights of all House members who wish to go to anywhere in the country, especially in areas where citizens need their attention and presence.”
