(Eagle News) — The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Philippines has reached 501 with the addition of 32 new cases as of Tuesday morning, March 24, 2020, according to the Department of Health.
The new confirmed cases came as the country’s testing capability for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had been strengthened with the arrival of 100,000 COVID-19 test kits from China, and other detection kits which had been already approved for distribution and commercial use by the Food and Drugs Administration.
The details on the 32 additional cases are still to be released by the DOH.
As of 4 p.m., Monday, March 23, the total confirmed COVID-19 cases were 462, with 33 total deaths.
Several of the reported cases were doctors and other medical practitioners who have been tirelessly treating the rising number of virus-infected persons in various hospitals and medical facilities.
Meanwhile, the total patients who recovered from the infection are now 19, with the addition of one patient recovering from the disease.
Health Assistant Secretary Dra. Maria Rosario Vergeire earlier said that the rapid rise in the country’s coronavirus cases is expected as the country has beenn equipped with thousands of additional test kits.
