(Eagle News) – The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has jumped to 380, after the addition of 73 new cases, an official of the Department of Health said on Sunday, March 22.
Health Assistant Secretary Dra. Rosario Vergeire also announced that the death toll had risen to 25, from Saturday’s toll of only 19.
In a radio interview over DZRH, Vergeire said that the additional 73 new cases were on top of the 307 total confirmed cases which the DOH announced in a bulletin yesterday afternoon, Saturday, March 21.
She added that with the arrival of 100,000 testing kits from China on Saturday, the confirmed cases are expected to rise as more people would be able to avail of the COVID-19 testing.
“We just received the donation from the Chinese embassy, the 100,000 testing kits,” Vergeire said.
These testing kits from China are already the complete type, she said. This means that 100,000 people would be tested with these COVID-19 tests kits, the health official explained.
Vergeire also announced on Sunday that that total recoveries in the country had risen to 15 from the previous 13.
She said that the details of the additional confirmed cases, as well as the fatalities would be released later by the DOH in its bulletin.
The statistics on COVID-19 released by the DOH on Saturday afternoon, March 21, namely the 307 total confirmed cases, 13 recoveries, and 19 deaths, were based on data as of 12 noon that day.
The additional numbers announced by Vergeire on Sunday morning were the confirmed numbers that they have received afterwards.
