Signal No. 1 hoisted over several areas
(Eagle News)—-Tropical Depression “Amang” maintained its strength as it slightly accelerated on Sunday, Jan. 20.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the center of “Amang” as of 4 a.m. was located 486 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
The weather bureau said it was packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
“Amang” is moving north northwest at 15 kilometers per hour, and is expected to make landfall over Surigao del Norte mainland-Siargao Islands today, between afternoon and evening.
PAGASA said Signal No. 1 is hoisted over the southern portion of eastern Samar, southern portion of Samar, Biliran, Leyte, southern Leyte, eastern Bohol, northern Cebu, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands and Camiguin.
Beginning today, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains will prevail over Caraga, northern Mindanao, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, eastern Visayas, central Visayas, Bicol region, southern Quezon, Marinduque and Romblon.
On Tuesday, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains may be experienced over Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, eastern Visayas and Central Visayas.
Those with small seacraft and fisherfolk are advised not to venture out into seaboards in areas under Signal No. 1, the northern seaboard of northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao due to “Amang” and the surge of the northeast monsoon.
