‘Suicide Squad’ holds the top spot at the box offiice for a second straight week

REUTERS — Despite being derided by critics, Warner Bros.’s ‘Suicide Squad’ held on to the number one position at the North American box office for a second week, bringing in an estimated 43.8 million dollars over the weekend.

In its opening weekened, Seth Rogen’s innuendo-filled animation ‘Sausage Party’ about supermarket foods who are unaware of their fates after they leave the shelves, came in second place with 33.6 million dollars in tickets sales, boxofficemojo.com reported on Sunday (August 14).

‘Pete’s Dragon’, the Disney remake of the 1977 film about a young orphan and his dragon, made 21.5 million in ticket sales for the weekend ending August 14th. The film also premiered this weekend.

Universal Pictures’ ‘Jason Bourne’ made 13.6 million to come in fourth place with movie goers.

In its third weekend in theaters and rounding off the top five films, STX Entertainment’s ‘Bad Moms’ brought in an estimated 11.5 million in ticket sales, according to the box office tracking website.
