REUTERS — The new trailer for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ has been released during the Olympic coverage on NBC on Thursday (August 10).

Although trailed in advance, it was not made clear when the trailer would appear but fans’ appetites were eventually whetted when it was released during the Olympics.

The Gareth Edwards directed film follows a group of rebels on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star.

Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso acts as one of their key leaders alongside the likes of Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera and Diego Luna’s Captain Cassian Andor.

If they succeed in their quest it will give the Rebel Alliance a critical piece of information to destroy the Death Star and help in their fight against the Galactic Empire.

The film is designed as a spin-off from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise and prequels the original 1977 ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’. According to a panel event at a Star Wars event in London, the cast and crew described the film as “gritty.”

They also teased that Star Wars villain Darth Vader makes an important appearance and is once again voiced by James Earl Jones.
