A top officer of the military ordered all troops to be nonpartisan in the duration of the election period.

Major General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command said government troops must be objective and focused on their sworn duty to ensure the safety of residents across the land.

He said it has been the command guidance of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for all government troops to remain nonpartisan in all days during the election period.

“Soldiers must remain objective and focused on their sworn duty to the country,” Guerrero said.

He said more soldiers will be deployed in Eastern Mindanao areas to address the insurgency problem particularly in the provinces of Surigao and Agusan and Compostela Valley.

Guerrero confirmed the arrival of an Army battalion in Tandag, Surigao del Sur and the coming of another battalion in Compostela valley as part of the deployment to meet head on the insurgency threats through peace, development and security operations.

He also said that the military is doubling its effort to prevent the toppling down of the power lines especially in its areas of responsibility in order not to disrupt the economic activities of the people.

Guerrero said the Bayanihan Investment Protection Security Operation is implemented designed to protect all vital installations and facilities including industries.

He said the move also includes the monitoring of the power lines used in the distribution of electricity to communities. (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
