Sison: Signing of MOU on PHL-China oil, gas development a “clear act of treason”

(Eagle News)—Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison said the signing of the memorandum of agreement on oil and gas development between the Philippines and China was a “clear act of treason.”

“…(It is a) blatant betrayal of the sovereign rights and national patrimony of the Philippines and the Filipino people,” he said.

For one, he said the MOU “waste basket” the international arbitral ruling that nullified China’s excessive claims in the South China Sea.

“The Philippines and the Filipino people must effectively reject the Memorandum,” he said.

“This is a confidentiality serving the traitors and thieves at the expense of the Filipino people who are kept in the dark and subjected to surprises by fait accompli,” he added.

Legislators have called for transparency in the 29 deals inked by China and the Philippines during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit, including the MOU.

Senator Ralph Recto, former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario and SC Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio have, however, hailed the MOU, saying it was not against Filipino interests.
